Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cathartic Collaborations provide brief appointments or phone calls to assess staff/client fit?

No. We encourage you to explore our website to identify a staff member and/or service that you feel is a good fit for you and your needs. If you have any specific questions about our availability, approach or services you are welcome to complete the intake form here and put your questions in the "Why are you seeking Cathartic Collaborations services?" section. You are also welcome to email us at contact@catharticcollaborations.com.au, however, if you complete the intake form it will provide more information so that we can provide you with a more informed answer.

Does Cathartic Collaborations provide bulk billing and/or reduced fees for therapy or capacity building supports?

No. Cathartic Collaborations is committed to ensuring that our services are accessible and affordable while maintaining high-quality care. To support this, our fees are set significantly lower than both the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) recommended rate of $270 per hour and the NDIS recommended rate of $193.99 per hour. We cannot offer bulk billing or further fee reductions, as doing so would compromise the sustainability of our services. By setting our fees below industry recommendations, we strive to balance affordability with the long-term viability of Cathartic Collaborations.

What are Cathartic Collaborations fees?

Information about our fees can be found here.

Does health insurance cover your services?

Some health insurance providers may offer rebates for Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) services. Please contact your insurance provider for details.

Does Cathartic Collaborations provide crisis support?

No. Cathartic Collaborations is not a crisis service. If you are in a mental health crisis, please call 000, MH Call at 1300 64 22 55 (QLD) or Lifeline at 13 11 14

How do I book an appointment?

All services can be booked through our website here. However, please don't book in your first appointment until you have completed our intake form and received confirmation from our staff via email that you can book in.

Can I access therapeutic services without a formal diagnosis?

Yes. We support individuals who self-identify as Autistic and/or ADHD without a formal diagnosis. While Cathartic Collaborations can screen for Autism and ADHD, formal diagnosis or assessments are not able to be provided.

Can accommodations be made to meet my neurodivergent needs?

Yes. Please let Cathartic Collaborations know if you have any specific sensory, communication, executive functioning or learning needs that need to be addressed to fully engage in our services. You are welcome to bring your own sensory tools or use the available ones. We are happy to make reasonable adjustments to the office environment during your session.

Does Cathartic Collaborations offer touch based therapies?

No. Cathartic Collaborations does not offer touch based therapeutic treatment approaches. While sensory input like hugs or hand holding can be helpful in regulating yourself with loved ones, these cannot be provided in a professional context. However, we can explore alternative ways to incorporate sensory input during sessions, such as using weighted blankets and sensory tools.

How are services delivered?

It varies depending on the service provided, but generally services are available by appointment in person at our Nundah office or via video or phone call.

What ethical standards does Cathartic Collaborations follow?

We adhere to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics, ensuring the highest standards of care and professionalism.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made with at least 24 hours' notice to avoid a cancellation fee (full fee of service booked). This policy is consistently applied across all late cancellations for all clients of Cathartic Collaborations to maintain fairness and stated in our service agreements/consent forms provided prior to engagement in our services so our clients can decide whether or not they are happy to engage in our services in consideration of our cancellation policy.

Cancellation policies and fees are common practice among NDIS and healthcare providers (e.g. GP, specialists) and most services have a 24 or 48 hour cancellation policy. At Cathartic Collaborations, we are committed to being fair with our fees so we have a 24 hour policy to balance the needs of our clients and the business. We also provide a reminder email the day before including our cancellation policy and a link to cancel online to enable our clients a chance to let us know if they need to cancel before the 24 hour notice period. Additionally, we offer telehealth if clients are unable to attend the office last minute to aid in accessibility to appointments.

What happens if I want to discontinue services?

You can discontinue services with 24 hours' notice before a scheduled appointment. If you do not attend or book appointments for two months, your case may be closed, and your spot offered to someone on the waitlist.
